Why is photography called an art?
In some people's view, it is an art because a photographer does not take the photo as the world views it, he will take it the way his mind sees it.
This is exactly the reason why some like me also justify post-processing on the images taken out of our cams. Post-processing in a way that tweaks the photo or remediates the flaws of the photo but not to an extent where it completely cheats the people viewing it, for examply cut and paste a part from different image, etc. etc.
Post-processing in my view can also be used where a photographer wants to show a emotion in the photo that cannot be taken directly by cam... like in cases where you use vignetting to highlight the prime subject in a photo or give a vintage look to it or go for monochrome.
There are lot of things that can be discussed on this topic. That is why post-processing still remains a contentious issue.

My attempt at post processing.
This was taken by me at near Chennai. I first converted the photo into a b/w photo and then followed the procedures I found on the Internet. The tutorial was for Photoshop but I did it in GiMP.

I can admit, I have soft side for B/W photos. A b/w photo for some reason in some cases can convey a story better than a colour photos.

When I first got my cam, for some reason i imagined this photo. I wanted to take this type of photo. One afternoon I just decided to take out my cam, my beloved Parked pen and a diary I had recently bought and click!....
I took this photo in B/W directly out of cam, which I know is not recommended but it was my inexperience at that time.
